About This Beach
The West Boat Ramp (Duane Boyer Public Boat Launch) is located on the north shore approximately 1.5 miles west of Fawnskin and closer to Big Bear Dam. Managed by Big Bear Municipal Water District, this public facility serves primarily as a boat launch but also provides beach access and swimming opportunities. Like its east counterpart, the West Ramp offers free launching for boats with required Quagga mussel inspection and lake permits. Ample parking for day-use vehicles and boat trailers makes it convenient for boaters and beach-goers. The beach area provides a more natural, less developed swimming experience compared to amenity-rich south shore parks. No lifeguards on duty, so swimmers should exercise caution and follow safe swimming practices (staying within 50 feet of shore or 20 feet from a dock). The north shore location offers beautiful views across the lake to south shore mountains and village. The west end tends to be quieter and less crowded, appealing to visitors seeking a more peaceful lake experience. Nearby Alpine Pedal Path provides biking and walking opportunities.
