Big Bear in March

March is Big Bear's spring-skiing sweet spot โ€” warm, longer days, softer snow, and noticeably thinner crowds than the February peak. The season is winding down, which means real deals if you time it right and keep an eye on the melt.

Winter conditions change fast. This guide was verified for the 2026โ€“27 season in 2026 โ€” always check live snow, road, and chain conditions (Caltrans QuickMap) the morning you travel.

Nights still freeze, so mornings are firm and afternoons soften into "corn" snow. Late-season storms can still drop fresh powder โ€” but so can a 60ยฐF thaw.

What's open in March

๐ŸŒค๏ธ Why March is the value month

With the holidays and Presidents' Day behind you, mid-week March is the calmest, cheapest way to ski Big Bear all winter โ€” short lift lines, easy parking, and softer lodging rates.

Before you drive up

Chain control is less frequent than mid-winter but a March storm can still trigger it, and refrozen overnight slush makes for icy morning roads. Carry chains through the end of the season and check Caltrans before you go โ€” chain requirements & winter driving โ†’
