Bear Mountain is why Big Bear is a name in the freestyle world. Where Snow Summit is about long groomed cruisers, Bear is built around terrain parks โ a mountain-wide progression of jumps, jibs, rails, and a superpipe that has shaped generations of SoCal snowboarders and freestyle skiers. If you came to send it, this is your mountain.
The terrain
Bear's layout is designed as a freestyle progression: smaller beginner-friendly features lower down build toward larger jump lines and technical jib setups up top, plus a signature pipe. Beyond the parks, Bear has a more natural, rolling feel than Summit's manicured groomers โ gullies, rollers, and playful terrain that reward a creative line. It's less about lapping perfect corduroy and more about finding features and hits all over the hill.
- Best for: snowboarders, freestyle skiers, park progression
- Signature feature: multiple terrain parks + superpipe
- Vibe: playful, natural terrain vs Summit's groomers
- Connected: free shuttle to Snow Summit; one ticket usually covers both
The parks
Bear typically runs several parks of escalating difficulty so riders can progress safely from their first boxes to booter lines. Start small, watch a lap before you drop in, and respect the park etiquette (call your drop, clear the landing). New to features? Our terrain-parks guide covers how to read a park and progress without getting hurt.
Planning your day at Bear Mountain
Bear's base lots are smaller than Summit's and fill fast on powder and weekend days โ many riders park at Summit or the overflow lot and shuttle over. Carry chains whenever snow is forecast.
Park layouts, lift tickets, hours, and pass options are set by the resort and change through the season โ check the official Big Bear Mountain Resort site the week you visit.
