A Big Bear Winter Weekend

Two hours from LA, two days in the snow. Here's a simple, do-able weekend itinerary that mixes slopes, snow play, and cozy mountain-town evenings โ€” plus what to lock in before you go.

Winter conditions change fast. This guide was verified for the 2026โ€“27 season in 2026 โ€” always check live snow, road, and chain conditions (Caltrans QuickMap) the morning you travel.

Book these before you leave

Day 1 โ€” Hit the snow

Morning: Get up the mountain early to beat traffic and parking. Skiers and boarders head to Snow Summit (groomers, beginners) or Bear Mountain (parks). Not skiing? Book a morning tube-park session or find a free sledding hill.

Lunch: Warm up at the lodge or head into town for a hot meal. Restaurants โ†’

Afternoon: A few more runs, then quit while it's still fun โ€” especially with kids. Check in and thaw out at your cabin.

Evening: Stroll the Village for dinner and lights, then back to the cabin for a fire and cocoa.

Day 2 โ€” Slow it down

Morning: Trade the crowds for quiet. Try snowshoeing a mellow north-shore trail, or if you've got little kids, an easy family snow-play spot.

Brunch: A relaxed mountain breakfast before the drive. Breakfast spots โ†’

Midday: One last easy activity โ€” a lakeview walk on the Alpine Pedal Path or a Village coffee โ€” then head down the mountain before the afternoon traffic builds.

Make it smooth

Timing your trip by month? January and February usually have the best snow.
